Invasive Species Management
Do you have invasive plants in your yard?
Invasive plant species are defined as those plants that do not naturally occur in our area, and threaten their new environment once they are introduced.
Invasive Species
- Have no natural enemies in their new environment
- Spread aggressively, displacing native plants and animals
- Cost millions to agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and human health
- Impact recreational activities and tourism
- Create serious fire hazards that threaten homes, businesses, and wildlife habitat
Non-native, invasive species upset the natural ecological balance and are a threat to two-thirds of all federally listed threatened and endangered species (Wilcove et al. 2000). Invasive species can spread after being planted as landscape elements and are often spread along roadways and utility corridors.
