Frequently Asked Questions
What is the U.S. Census?
The United States Census is a count of every person living in the United States that occurs every ten years. It is mandated by the Constitution and is used in allocating Congressional seats to states as well as distributing more than $400 billion in federal funds for government programs.

Why Should I Take the Census?

Everyone who is living in the United States at the time the Census is mailed should take the Census. The Census is extremely important because the data collected is used to determine where federal dollars are spent for important government programs, including transportation, education, and social services. For a complete list of programs that rely on the Census for accurate statistical information, click here.

Is the Census Safe?
The Census is one of the safest surveys a person will ever complete. Every Census worker takes a lifetime oath to protect the confidential information it contains, and no organization other than the U.S. Census Bureau can view your responses. In fact, not even the President or the FBI has access to your individual Census survey, nor does any state or local government agency.

How Long Does the Census Take to Complete?
The 2010 Census is the fastest and easiest Census ever developed. As opposed to previous years, the 2010 Census contains only ten questions and should take no longer than ten minutes to complete.

What if I Don't Receive a Census Questionnaire or I Need Help Completing it?
If you don't receive a Census questionnaire by mail or need assistance in answering any of the questions, you can visit a Questionnaire Assistance Center (QAC) in your neighborhood. The QACs in Marana are located at:
