Lead and Copper Rule

In 1991, the Environmental Protection Agency enacted guidelines for municipal water providers to test the lead and copper levels in residential properties. These minerals can enter the water system from the corrosion of some plumbing materials. The Town is required to test each system every three years for these elements. This short video gives an overview of the legislation and the sampling process.

If your home is selected, there are a few guidelines we want to mention. First, the sample collected must be the first draw of the day. we need to test water that has been motionless in your plumbing for at least six hours. Second, the sample should be taken from either the kitchen sink or the bathroom sink. It is usually easier to use the kitchen sink, since the bottle is so large. Be sure to fill the bottle completely. We need one full liter for the lab testing procedures.
