Since 2012, Marana Water has been operating a water reclamation, or sanitary sewer, system in the north marana and the saguaro bloom neighborhood. This division provides design, management, and operations and maintenance of over 48 miles of sewer conveyance, and two water reclamation facilities.

SEWER CLEANING & TV INSPECTION PROGRAM

As part of a preventive maintenance program to keep the sewer system operating properly, Marana Water cleans and televises the system annually. This program will help prevent any sanitary sewer overflows (SSO), and any damage from an SSO, by removing dirt, grease, and other debris from the system. It will also allow the department to plan for future maintenance and replacement.

How it works -

To clean the system, a high pressure water jet is pulled through the sewer main cleaning the inside of the pipes. Grit, grease, and other debris is flushed to a downstream manhole where it is removed. Once the cleaning is complete, a cable mounted camera is run through the sewer to document the condition of the pipe.

What to expect -

When sewer cleaning occurs in your area you can expect Marana Water, and its contractor, to be working around manholes in the streets and easements. Crews will do everything possible to minimize disturbances. Routine work will occur during the day, which could cause some partial traffic disruptions in some areas. On occasion, air or water might come up through the toilets or drains in your home. Please contact our office at (520) 382-2570 with any additional questions.

SEWER BILLING

A sewer bill is calculated using two components:

  1. Monthly minimum

  2. Consumption charge

Marana Water has two sewer providers, Marana and Pima County Regional Water Reclamation Department (RWRD), both are collected on the water bill. The example below shows a Marana Water sewer bill with the monthly minimum at $14.26, and the consumption charge of $4.59 per 1,000 gallons. For Pima County RWRD customers, the same example below would come to $32.40. Their monthly minimum is $13 and the residential consumption charge is $4.85 per 1,000 gallons. For more information on Pima County’s rates, click here.

To calculate the sewer consumption portion of the bill an average of the three winter months, December, January, and February, of the previous year. Every July this average is recalculated for the upcoming year. When calculating the bill, the monthly water use OR the winter average is used to calculate sewer consumption, whichever value is lower will be used.

All non-residential customers will be charged the monthly minimum and the consumption will be based on their monthly consumption at the $4.59 per 1,000 gallons.

INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS
